Yung Lean releases a reimagining of Robyn’s 2005 beloved track ‘Robotboy,’ produced by Klas Åhlund. A longtime friend and collaborator of Robyn’s, Lean brings a deeply personal perspective to the original while preserving its emotional resonance that has connected with listeners for years.

The track came to life after a conversation between the two artists in Stockholm, their shared hometown. Feeling a deep affinity with the titular ‘Robotboy’ character, Lean was compelled to record his own take.

Reflecting on Yung Lean’s rendition of ‘Robotboy,’ Robyn says: “I asked Jonatan if he wanted to record his version of Robotboy because I just craved hearing his interpretation of this sad song. I think it was made for you J, the lyrics turn to gold in your version, like you are singing this lullaby to a previous version of yourself 🖤”

From their Swedish roots growing up in the same Stockholm neighbourhood (Södermalm), Robyn and Yung Lean have since forged their own singular paths through contemporary music, earning global acclaim while remaining true to their distinct artistic visions.

Yung Lean’s reinterpretation of ‘Robotboy’ stands as a thoughtful tribute to a song that has long held meaning for him, and a reflection of the longstanding creative relationship between the two artists.
