Montreal’s Bibi Club announces Feu de garde (les braises), the deluxe edition of their acclaimed 2024 album, out everywhere digitally on May 9th. Celebrating Feu de garde’s 1-year anniversary, the reissue delivers four new tracks mixed by Nicolas Basque and mastered by Valentin Ignat, including a cover of Stereolab’s ‘Orgiastic,’ out now, and a reworked version of ‘you can wear a jacket or a shirt’ that features Calvin Johnson.

With ‘Orgiastic,’ the duo of Adèle Trottier-Rivard and Nicolas Basque pay homage to one of their biggest musical influences by remaining faithful to the original, while giving it their own hypnotic instrumental spin. “Stereolab has been a landmark band in my life,” explains Trottier-Rivard. “Seven years ago, I created a mixtape to accompany me throughout labor. Meaningful, liberating songs. My child was born to ‘Orgiastic’ by Stereolab. That moment, out of time and space, will belong to me forever. Our version of the song carries that strength. We wanted to pay tribute to this legendary band.”

Mixed by Ali Chant, mastered by Matt Colton, and featuring vocal contributions from Helena Deland, Camille Delean, and Carmel Scurti-Belley, it’s a liberated, seductive, and undeniable collection of French pop/rock jewels.

Trottier-Rivard and Basque named themselves Bibi Club in honour of the discotheque in their living room, where their bibis (or loved ones) come together and dance. Their first album, Le soleil et la mer, was featured on the 2023 Polaris Music Prize Long List and earned support from BBC6 Music, Le Devoir (best Quebec albums of 2022), and more.

“‘Feu de garde’ is an album about the importance of community, kindness, being a parent, mortality and strength,” the duo explains. “It’s a soundtrack to a nonviolent tension, a fire that illuminates. The flames intersect and reassure one another.” Carefully tended by the bibis, these flames bring light, comfort, and life. The embers transmit energy, and their warmth protects us against frostbite as a harsh winter finally comes to an end.
