Announced: Dance et al. – The Things We Do With The Time We Have + ‘Jolyane I’

The Things We Do With The Time We Have, Dance et al.’s second album, will be released February 28, and marks a pivotal evolution for the project, arriving six years after Dance et al.’s debut The Higher Infinite.

Much like its predecessor, the album reflects a deep contemplation of the music-making process. However, this time, the creative approach shifted inward—quietude and solitude replaced collaboration and experimentation. The result is a meticulously crafted body of work where the studio itself becomes an instrument.

Recorded over the course of a year in Boston, The Things We Do With The Time We Have explores synthesis, granular sounds, and electric guitar, radiating an organic warmth and depth that’s increasingly rare in today’s digital era. The album, performed and recorded live with no overdubs, spans over 135 minutes of meditative soundscapes, featuring analogue synths, drum machines, and guitars, all played live and mixed on a Wunderbar Console.

The first taste of music titled ‘Jolyane I‘ is a two-movement piece conceived as a work for abstract dance. Named after Jolyane Langois, a dancer and close friend, the track reflects shared memories from Vienna. The expansive, dreamlike quality of the track feels both intimate and transcendent, immersing listeners in the very sanctum of its creation. With its visceral depth, ‘Jolyane I‘ moves listeners as if they are within the studio itself.
