black midi share new single & video ‘Chrondomalacia Patella’

Today, black midi reveal a new single/video, ‘Chondromalacia Patella‘, from their forthcoming album, Cavalcade, out next Friday May 28 on Rough Trade / Remote Control Records, with an online Cavalcade listening party held on May 27.

The third in a string of  fervent singles, ‘Chondromalacia Patella’, is a song about convalescence, aptly named after a band member’s knee injury from running. It features abrasive noise rock chords and circular drumming, which ultimately climax in a sunburst of arpeggiated guitars skyscraping above and beyond power metal. The accompanying video was directed by Vilhjálmur Yngvi Hjálmarsson.

On May 27 at 4AM AEST, black midi — Geordie Greep (guitar, primary vocals), Cameron Picton (bass, vocals), and Morgan Simpson (drums) —  will host a Cavalcade listening party via Youtube in which the album will stream in its entirety.

Cavalcade is a dynamic, hellacious, and inventive follow-up to 2019’s widely-praised Schlagenheima labyrinth with hairpin-turn episodes and lyrics full of dourly corrosive observations” (New York Times, Best Albums of 2019). It scales beautiful new heights, pulling widely from a plethora of genres and influences, reaching ever upwards from an already lofty base of early achievements. black midi picture Cavalcade as a line of larger than life figures, from a cult leader fallen on hard times and an ancient corpse found in a diamond mine to legendary cabaret singer Marlene Dietrich, strolling seductively past them. “When you’re listening, you can imagine all the characters form a sort of cavalcade. Each tells their story one by one and as each track ends they overtake you, replaced by the next in line,” comments Picton.

Pre-save / pre-order Cavalcade.
