Texas-based Molly Burch shares her latest single ‘Candy’, from her forthcoming album, First Flower, released on October 5. Listen below!
Of the single Molly says, “I wrote ‘Candy’ after a long conversation with my dad on the phone, where I had been just walking around getting out a lot of my self doubt and creative anxieties. It may sound like I’m talking to a past love, but it’s really meant for that voice in my head that tells me a negative narrative. Anxiety can be so addictive (like candy 🍬) — the cycle of it, the relief after you’ve spent time worrying about something that turns out fine. I felt like writing about all of this because it’s a significant part of my waking life, but all wrapped up in a sweet pop song.”
First Flower is a walk-through Molly’s most intimate thoughts, exploring broken friendships, her relationship to her sister and how she learned to fight overwhelming anxiety. First Flower is available for pre-order here.
While hurricane Harvey kept Molly locked in at home, she wrote much of the album, bouncing ideas off her bandmate and boyfriend Dailey Toliver who would contribute guitar parts and orchestration suggestions. When it came time to record, Burch chose to work with Erik Wofford at Cacophony Recorders in Austin.
