In mid-2018, Moon Rituals released a debut album on Solar/Sonar, concurrently playing their last two shows. The finalé drew in Melbourne’s most self-assured weirdos, engrossed in the moment. This year, Moon Rituals offer an unexpected rebirth of songs less about fantasy, but drawn from the altered consciousness of grief. Employing a similar process, Sarah wrote some demos and emailed them to Mikey who added instruments. For ‘Painting a Bird’, Young grabbed Shaun Gionis (Boomgates) to play live drums, resulting in a stripped-back ‘band sound’ and a surging optimism.
