Holly Herndon has released her third album, PROTO, via 4AD.
The album isn’t so much about A.I. as much as it was created in collaboration with A.I. – with her own A.I. ‘baby’ Spawn, to be precise. PROTO makes reference to what Holly refers to as the protocol era, where new ideological battles over the future of A.I. protocols, internet protocols, and personal and political protocols force us to ask ourselves who we are, what we are, and what do we stand for.
