The latest and most excellent new album from EZTV is out now via Captured Tracks / Remote Control.
Stereogum tell us in a glowing review of the album that EZTV are “stunningly consistent purveyors of high-level pop-rock with strains of retro folk and psych,” and “the sheer number of striking guitar sounds and riffs on this album is astounding, and that six-string action is always deployed in service of the song, held down by a rhythm section that always seems to find some subtle flash of genius yet never loses the beat . . . few bands have so quickly gained mastery over their aesthetic while also writing the songs to back it up.”
The FADER describe the last single taken from the LP, ‘Reason To Run’ as “a breezy confluence of baked, magic hour guitar strums and slightly snarling electric riffs. While undeniably easy on the ears, Ezra Tenenbaum’s lyrics paint a knotty picture of resilience in the face of alienation and despondency.”
The band told The FADER, “We’re all fans of Many Moons by Real Estate’s Martin Courtney. Martin has such a unique sensibility with guitar licks, especially with a 12-string electric guitar. When we toured with Martin in February, he jumped onstage with us for a Flamin Groovies cover with his 12-string, which kind of sparked the idea of him writing a lick specifically for ‘Reason to Run.’ He came down to the city a couple of hours before a Woods show and knocked his part out in like half an hour. I think he and Ezra are weirdly simpatico with regard to syncopation and rhythm, so watching the two of them kind of huddle over the guitar was great, on the same wavelength and finishing each others’ thoughts.”
High in Place features several guest appearances from friends of the band including Jenny Lewis who lent her vocals to the first single ‘High Flying Faith’. The album also includes cameos from Chris Cohen, Martin Courtney and Matt Kallman of Real Estate, John Andrews of Quilt, Nic Hessler and Mega Bog.
