The Sticks share new single and video ‘EXMEN’

From live electronic music trio The Sticks comes new single and video ‘EXMEN‘ via Broken Stone / Remote Control Records – the group’s first release since their acclaimed self titled 2015 debut album. The Sticks‘ sound revolves around the AirSticks, a gestural electronic ‘invisible’ drumkit invented by the band’s drummer/percussionist, Alon Ilsar, who also contributes live drums to the record. Ilsar‘s creeping multi-textural groove, combined with Josh Ahearn‘s grinding bass tones and keyboardist Daniel Pliner‘s otherworldly melodies, create the impression of a slow jam being pulled through a wormhole.

The Sticks spent lockdown mixing and editing music recorded on the Hawkesbury River in 2019. ‘EXMEN’ is the first release from those sessions: a 6-minute intergalactic journey from industrial bustle to the furthest reaches of empty space. The song was brought to life through the mastering of producer Josh Head (aka Anklepants), with an accompanying music video edited by Evan McGregor. Watch HERE.

Catch the band celebrating the release of their new single at Melbourne’s Jazzlab on May 29 with a Sydney show soon to be announced.

The Sticks also continue to innovate with the release of a gestural musical iPhone app where fans can reimagine the track through shaking and changing the orientation of their device. Download the ‘EXMEN’ app on the Apple App Store HERE.
