james K’s critically-acclaimed third album, Friend, has been reworked by electronic pioneers Objekt, Drew McDowall (Coil), Hesaitix (M.E.S.H), Roza Terenzi, and Arushi Jain, as well as collaborators and contemporaries Special Guest DJ, Priori (who both co-produced elements of Friend), JASSS, Yushh and Loidis. AD 93 will release the remixes via digital and CD on 24 April 2026.
Friend is a portal with its own emotional cartography, one with a map that continues to unfold as friends and collaborators breathe new life into an album that deeply resonated with all who heard it.
Alongside the announcement, james K releases two singles: ‘Play (Objekt Remix)’, Objekt’s first remix in over a decade and ‘N’balmed (JASSS Purple Mix)’, an industrial-psych rework from the Barcelona-based producer.
Friend was lauded by global tastemakers, including The Guardian, BBC 6 Music, The Face, The FADER, and featured on End of Year lists including Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, Time Out, DAZED, Crack Magazine, Vogue, The Quietus, Notion, and Mixmag. Friend has taken james K on an extensive world tour, continuing the run this year with a sold-out show at London’s Barbican in April alongside stops all across the Europe, including Rewire and BRDCST festivals, before making her return to the US to close out her tour with headline shows in LA and a hometown show at the historic Webster Hall in NYC.
Objekt on his remix:
“I haven’t done a remix since 2015, but when Jamie asked last year if I would remix a track from her LP it felt like the time was right: I adore the album, had a clear idea in my head of what I wanted to do (with just enough time to try it out), and it was for a friend. I was drawn to Play in particular because of a nagging sense that the melody had another, darker side to it that the original arrangement belied – I couldn’t stop thinking about how it would sound reharmonized, with the vocal recontextualized over a moody, slinky pop-dancehall version. So I started by rewriting the chord progression, and the rest pretty much wrote itself (quite naturally for once). I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of producing pop music and really loved working on this; I hope I can explore this world further. I’m v grateful to Jamie for the opportunity and trust. :)”
