Listen – Pearls ‘Superstar’

Melbourne trio Pearls have returned with a new single ‘Superstar’ out now via Dot Dash / RemoteControl Records.

Pearls are fine purveyors of glam rock, where sugar meets the grit. They are ex lovers Ryan Caesar & Ellice Blakeney and newly joined, long-term friend, James Payne. Fusing tightly constructed rock with dance sophistication and an unnerving grasp of pop, ‘Superstar’ marks the coming of Pearls’ sophomore album, due early 2017, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album Pretend You’re Mine.

Since the release of their debut LP last year, Pearls have undergone inter-band breakups, periods of intense touring, and a line-up reshuffle, but have emerged a band as assured as ever. Now riding the wave of a year spent in flux Pearls are feeding inspiration into, and putting the finishing touches on their new album. The band’s element of twisted romance has remained: “if Twin Peaks’ Bobby Briggs and James Hurley put aside their differences and started a band (inspired by the love, loss and life of Laura), they’d sound exactly like broody three-piece Pearls,” says Nylon, underpinned by a sound that is “fuzzed-out and wonderfully engaging,” as described by Spin.

Having been praised for their “twisted disco anchors [and] perfect melodic composition” by Beat, and touted “a sultry, slinky trip that’s equal parts Suicide, Goldfrapp, and David Bowie…[an] underground phenomenon,” by Tone Deaf, Pearls are ready to make a more than welcome return.
