Good Morning have announced their new album Prize // Reward to be released on Friday 11th May. The duo have also shared two new singles ‘Mirror Freak’ and ‘Escalator’, listen below!
The duo, Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons, high school friends who grew up in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and slowly began to spend their weekends tinkering away in a home studio, experimenting with songwriting and recording techniques, slowly perfecting their craft behind closed doors.
While their trademark recording techniques and home studio sound are on show here, the real jaw-dropper is in the band’s knack for songwriting, their simple ability to tug on the listener’s heartstrings and make them stop dead in their tracks, wondering about someone they haven’t spoken to in a while or a lover they left behind. ‘Mirror Freak’ is the closest thing to a garage rock song on the record. The track comes complete with a free-jazz sax solo, performed by songwriter Stefan Blair’s dad. On a record that jumps wildly between moods and genres, this is something like a cannonball into the deep end.
‘Escalator’, on the other hand, is an almost-soul song about having a panic attack in a shopping centre. Need we say more?
