Liz Stringer releases ‘To Survive’, the heart-rending newest single from The Second High, due for release 28th March. In April, Stringer returns home from the UK to embark on an East Coast Australian tour.
‘To Survive’ is a rich piano ballad featuring swelling strings and lush vocals that holds the listener in a vice, but the story holds just as much hope as sadness. ‘To Survive’ is based on a friend Stringer met through fundraising at a housing crisis centre in Melbourne. Thrown out of home at a young age because of how he identifies, he grew up alone on the streets of Melbourne, in perpetual danger and with a devastating drug habit.
“After doing some fundraising together, I formed a relationship with some of the staff there and my conversations with this incredibly generous individual simultaneously broke my heart and reminded me of the indefatigable power of the human spirit. He now works with youth who are in similar positions and has been able to use this profoundly difficult start to his life as a way to help kids who desperately need someone they can trust. He had adult mentors at pivotal moments who he says helped to save his life and now he’s able to be that person for vulnerable younger ones. I’m so grateful to him for his generosity in sharing his story with me and have huge respect for what he puts into his community,” said Liz.
During mid 2023, Stringer embarked on perhaps her most ambitious journey yet, a three month stint at Iguana Studios in Brixton UK to work with Grammy nominated, Ivor Novello Award winning producer and engineer Beni Giles (Lianne La Havas, Oscar Jerome). The Second High is the culmination of those sessions.
