Watch: Jim Legxacy – ‘father’

Jim Legxacy enters 2025 with another spellbinding offering, ’father’. Having teased the track on socials in 2024, fan calls for its full release exploded with the latest snippet gaining 1M+ views across his platforms. The fervent anticipation for this song is palpable.

‘father’ is Jim’s latest track that continues to whet appetites for his forthcoming project, black british music (2025) and is a buoyant departure from previous more melancholic singles ‘nothings changed (!)’ and most recently, ‘aggressive’. Jim’s delivery on ‘father’ holds boundless confidence and energy bringing a euphoric chaos to his unique sound. He once again displays his versatility through disrupting genre conventions and naturally builds the track around a sample from ‘I Love My Father’ by George Smallwood. Jim’s writing and production work on ‘father’ is complemented by additional production from YT and is accompanied by an exceptional video by Lauzza.

‘father’ is a snapshot of what black british music (2025) encapsulates for Jim. Featuring a photograph of Jim’s dad as the artwork, this is a personal deep dive into his teenage days, growing up and navigating life, of living and surviving in South East London without the presence of a father figure. His growth through experience was shrouded in an ever-changing personal, socio-political and musical landscape that informed his work and musical vision. Jim’s evolved, kaleidoscopic sound continues to draw influence from all genres, distinctly r’n’b, soul, pop, grime, midwest emo, afro beats and alternative.

Music has always formed part of Jim’s identity. His artistic journey properly began in 2018, dropping multiple singles and two longer form projects (Dynasty, Citadel) which displayed his artistic growth, versatility, and vulnerability, all whilst battling homelessness. 2023 saw him release his latest mixtape Homeless N*gga Pop Music to widespread critical acclaim. Jim has already garnered support and cosigns from fellow artists including Dave, Stormzy, Central Cee, Headie One, Skepta, Loski, Jack Harlow and recently Fred again..
