Fresh off a North American tour supporting I’m With Her, Ye Vagabonds share the second single ‘The Flood’ from their upcoming album, All Tied Together, out Jan 30th, 2026. ‘The Flood’ comes with a video directed by Ellius Grace (watch here) and follows the album’s first single ‘On Sitric Road’ which was accompanied by a live video recorded in Dublin.
‘The Flood’ is an upbeat, fiddle-propelled window into a lively but doomed scene from Ye Vagabond’s early Dublin days, a squatters’ community brought to vivid life. Recorded completely live in a Galway house by Philip Weinrobe (Big Thief, Adrienne Lenker), it features an ensemble of players including Shahzad Ismaily and River Lea labelmate Sam Amidon.
Director Ellius Grace says of the video and song, “When Brían and Diarmuid got in touch about making music videos for their new album I couldn’t say no. Their music is so evocative and beautiful, and this new album feels incredibly personal to them. It was an added bonus to hear that the guys had dancer Jimmy Southward on board, who I had seen on stage a number of times. This became a beautiful collaboration between all four of us, taking Brían and Diarmuid’s ideas and translating them into loose stories which Jimmy then brought to life through his performance. Brían and Diarmuid also wanted to shoot these videos in a single take to capture a feeling of immediacy or reality. This became a great challenge where myself and the crew had to choreograph ourselves along with Jimmy to land in the right places and have everything work the way it should.
The Flood is a song about the housing crisis, and how we live in urban spaces that can sometimes feel prohibitive and impossible to survive in. Jimmy takes on the character of a businessman with a supposedly successful job, though he’s still living in a tent in Phoenix Park. He gets up and goes to work, smiling and waving at passersby, but something moves him as he goes. His body convulses and he becomes more and more out of control. The briefcase is full of random objects and he throws that away eventually along with his phone, stripping away the veneer of a happy worker and becoming free. The more he succumbs to the movement and supposed madness, the happier he becomes. He doesn’t need to pretend any more.”
Recorded live in a house in Galway, with acclaimed producer Philip Weinrobe at the helm, the powerful and cinematic album features deeply evocative original songs infused with memory, tribute, and gratitude. Throughout, a strong sense of home prevails, both their own hard-won digs, past and present, and an inner refuge for anyone longing for connection beyond time and geography. “All these songs have addresses,” says co-frontman Diarmuid Mac Gloinn. “They’re about specific locations and specific people.” The brothers cite fiction writers George Saunders and Claire Keegan as particular inspirations on this record.
While initially achieving renown as purveyors of their ancestors’ music mixed with folk-based originals, the Mac Gloinn brothers – Brían and Diarmuid – have increasingly focused on honing their own material, enlisting trusted co-conspirators to distill voice and vision into potent tunes. They have brought their interpretation of the Irish folk tradition to global audiences, going from Trad sessions to touring with the likes of Hozier and boygenius.
All Tied Together follows the duo’s previous acclaimed 2022 album Nine Waves and standalone single ‘I’m A Rover’, which won them an RTE Radio One Folk Award for Best Traditional Folk Track. Ye Vagabonds were also named Best Folk Group for the second time at the 2021 ceremony, where they hold the record for most awarded artists.
