Gus Englehorn invites listeners into the twisted world of One Eyed Jack to celebrate Halloween — ‘One Eyed Jack Pt. I and Pt. II (The Interrogation/The Otherside)’, followed by ‘One Eyed Jack Pt. III (The Epilogue)’, giving listeners the urge to dive deep into the gripping storyline and vivid inspiration behind the fictional character invented by Gus himself.
Englehorn describes One Eyed Jack as “a railroad song, of the kind that I would imagine a group of men singing as they drove in the railroad spikes while working. It’s about a Spanish Inquisition-style interrogation about a fictional deity (One-Eyed Jack), whose legend, retold and exaggerated over time, grew to the point of inter-dimensional mystery.”
The video, directed by Estée Preda and Englehorn, blends surrealism with an eerie, dreamlike narrative. It features a mix of unsettling interrogation scenes and abstract visuals, creating a mysterious, otherworldly atmosphere that complements the quirky, offbeat vibe of the song.
Recently announced to play SXSW 2025, Gus continues to push boundaries, captivating audiences with his unique artistic vision. The Hornbook, his sophomore release, will be released on January 31st.
