Black Cab share their new single ‘Superheroes’ and announce their long awaited sixth album Rotsler’s Rule to be released May 13th on digital and limited edition vinyl, with launch shows in Melbourne and Sydney. See below!
The album started as a series of free flowing electronica jams at Melbourne’s Bakehouse studios with local producer Graeme Pogson (GL, Bamboos) on drums and dials, and features guest appearances by Evan Tweedie (Husky, DubFX), Lucy Buckeridge (Lowtide) and Steve Law (Zen Paradox) with mixing by long time Cab producer Woody Annison. Black Cab founder members Andrew Coates and James Lee were keen to explore simpler, synth driven ideas with vocal themes influenced by cosplay sub cultures and memes. Exploring the early origins of cosplay took them to William “Bill’ Rotsler, a noted illustrator, sci-fi author and amateur pornographer whose ‘Rotsler’s Rules for Costuming‘ set a loose framework for early sci-fi convention costume events. The band received permission to use an early Rotsler illustration from a 1946 sci-fi fanzine, ‘The Acolyte’ for the front cover.
Recent single ‘Rotsler’s Rules’ has received significant airplay in Germany and was included in Radio Ein’s top 100 tracks for 2021.
Rotsler’s Rules is the follow-up to Black Cab’s 2014 double album, Games Of The XXI Olympiad and the 2017 alt-soundtrack album Akira.
Black Cab will launch Rotsler’s Rules with headline shows in Sydney (Friday May 20th) and Melbourne (Sat May 28th).
