Five-piece 1000 Rabbits (FKA Rabbitfoot) return with their second single ‘Rubik’s Cube’, the exhilarating follow-up to their debut ‘Virgin Soil’. Continuing to build momentum through their electrifying live shows, the track captures the band’s instinctive and playful energy, leaning into a more explosive side of their sound. Watch the accompanying visual here.

1000 Rabbits is an off-kilter art-pop picnic who tell stories through human sounds, both intimate and extroverted. Comprising Laura (violin), Liv (synthesiser), Paolo (guitar), River (vocals), and Luke (drums), the five-piece cut their teeth across London’s independent venues, becoming regulars at The Windmill in Brixton where their enigmatic, high-voltage performances earned them a reputation as local “powerhouses”. Four of the band first met making music together as teenagers through a music programme in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, later adopting Paolo on guitar after moving to London to study. Grounded by playful bass synthesiser, expressive vocal lines weave through a colourful tapestry of violin, guitar and drums. The result is something immediate and immersive: rhythm-forward, emotionally raw, and built for bodies in motion. Ditch your self-consciousness and move.

‘Rubik’s Cube’ began as a playful reworking of an earlier idea, the band jokingly called ‘The James Bond Song’. Keeping its restless energy but rebuilding the track from the ground up, the final version formed around a riff written by River, with Paolo’s soaring guitar part opening up the song’s explosive chorus. Unlike many of their tracks, which evolve gradually on stage, ‘Rubik’s Cube’ arrived quickly. Written together in a single afternoon, the band describe the process as something that “seemed to flow out of us”. The result captures the band’s instinctive chemistry in full flight. A favourite in their live set, the track leans into a louder, more cathartic side of the band’s sound, with pounding rhythm, flashes of guitar heroics and moments of unrestrained release. Its title reflects the colourful, puzzling energy at the heart of the song.

Following the dancefloor pulse of ‘Virgin Soil’, the band see ‘Rubik’s Cube’ as a kind of mirror image. “It has a similar danciness,” they explain, “but energetically it feels like an inversion, with darker verses and bright releases in the chorus.” With ‘Rubik’s Cube’, 1000 Rabbits continue to build momentum as one of London’s most compelling emerging live bands.

In their own words, 1000 Rabbits say “Thank you for dancing to Virgin Soil. We hope you dance to this too.”

1000 Rabbits plan to take their distinctive live set across the UK and Ireland this Summer. Having built their reputation by performing night after night, the band show no signs of slowing down. Having just performed a headline show at Third Man Records, which sold out in minutes, the band are set to travel to Glasgow, Manchester, and Bristol, culminating in their biggest headline show to date at MOTH Club in London on 30 June. Peppered amongst these shows are a run of festival shows dates including The Great Escape (Brighton), Get Together (Sheffield), Latitude Festival (Suffolk), Reeperbahn Festival (Hamburg), and more.
